Books of Note:
Occasionally, you might want to increase your vocabulary or have the opportunity to imagine your own characters and escape inside your own imagination through a book. I myself, manage to read 1 or 2 books every two weeks (depending on the length and challenge of the subject and writing).
Recent reads I wanted to draw attention to:
Little Children by Tom Perrotta
When a child molester moves to a suburban neighborhood, what affect does this have on the community? Highland Fling by Kate Fford
Who knew Scotland could provide such a great backdrop for a social climber stuck in the middle of, well, the antithesis of London? Fford takes the reader inside a new "cutting edge" women's magazine, Colleen where we discover the idiosyncrasies, insecurities and mistakes of the eclectic staff members of the glossy as it tries to compete with the best high fashion magazines of London. A great vacation read!
Five Men Who Broke My Heart by Susan Shapiro
One married writer finds herself in an unhappy period of her life during her self-declared summer of "no baby/ no book" and decides that she needs to track down five major former loves. In this honest, open, funny and thoughtful journey, Shapiro learns about herself, her mistakes and finds that where now is in her life is okay with her. It's a wonderful affirmation of living one's life by one's own rules and not by those that society presses on us.
