Fever Pitch is a two-tiered love story: between a school teacher (Fallon) and (Barrymore) as then one to the Boston Red Sox and its diehard fans known as "Red Sox Nation."

Neither the romance between the couple or the baseball aspect of the film is overdone. Instead, there's the ideal balance between both aspects of the film. Lindsey meets Ben when he takes his students to visit her at her office in Boston. He is a few steps below the usual standard of guy she dates (i.e. his earning potential) but he wins her over by being sweet and charming and funny. Soon, she finds out he's a fanatic Boston Red Sox fan. He never misses a gym. He and his friends travel to Florida for spring training each year. Will his obsession ruin their chances for a long-term future together? Will the Red Sox tear them apart?

Fallon is delightful as the winsome, "man-child" of Ben, a lovable guy whose life so far has revolved around his beloved team.

Barrymore turns in an adorable comedic performance as workaholic Lindsey. She spends hours at the office or working out with little time spent dating.

Fever Pitch is not as much about baseball but about making a relationship work and to remain true to oneself by not giving up one's own passions and interests. It's a sure fire Johnny Damon-style home run.
