MOVIE REVIEW
Funny Ha Ha
Starring: Kate Dollenmayer, Christian Rudder, Miles Paige, Jennifer L. Schapler
Written and Directed by: Andrew Bujalski
Filmed in and around Boston on a very small budget, Funny Ha, Ha is a smart, genuine film and has a likeable heroine at the center.
Filmmaker Bujalski won the Independent Spirit Award's 2004's Someone to Watch award.
Marnie (Dollenmayer) is a laid-back, sweet 23-year-old who recently has been fired from her job and now is going through several temp jobs and trying to make sense of the ambiguous relationships she has with men in her life who may or may not be interested in her (sounds familiar to most of us women).
She never gets upset by her situation and handles it with a wonderful, rare flair.
The film is left rather open-ended, has a melancholy, realism to it but has its subtle humorous elements as well.
It abruptly ends just as the viewer becomes well ensconced in Marnie's life and wants to follow her for years not weeks. Her character is that enthralling.
