MOVIE REVIEW
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Starring: Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Mos Def
Don't Panic. Whether you have read the cult classic or not, this is one trip you will want to take in the theatre.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is zany and funny and satirical and can be interpreted with the most basic premise or with a deeper meaning. It's refreshing in that it is a sci-fi film done in a very low-fi way due mostly to the talents of Rockwell and Def.
The story is pretty simple, Arthur Dent (Freeman) learns the earth is being destroyed and he is taken on a tour of the galaxy where he comes in contact with strange beings and stranger doings. In a dazzling, impressive performance by Def, Ford goes with the flow as Dent's guide, Ford Prefect. Nothing startles him or surprises him about the journey.
Rockwell is hysterical as the megalomaniac yet psychedelic President of the Galaxy (he nails the role by combining the arrogant nature of President Geroge W. Bush and the gregarious nature of former President Bill Clinton). It's fun to watch the sparks fly when these two play off each other.
Zooey Deschanel the smart and savvy Trillion. And Alan Rickman is perfectly cast as the super emotional robot Marvin.
Everything is turned upside down and there's something in this film to entertain everyone.
