FILM REVIEW
Smiley Face
Starring: Anna Faris, John Krasinski
Director: Greg Arakki
First Look Pictures
By Amy Steele
There's nothing amusing about this film where an aspiring blonde actress in Hollywood (no stereotype there) played by Anna Faris of the Scary Movie series is stoned the entire film. Why? It's certainly not Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, which is clever and has characters you like and who you cheer on to go pick up some burgers.
Here, this character is never developed to the point where we even faintly care whether she pays her electric bill, replaces the "Special Cupcakes" her roommate left out or re-stashes the pot collection or makes it to the beach with her roommate's friend who has a crush on her (a geeked out John Krasinski).
Even on drugs would Smiley Face, directed by Greg Arakki (Myserious Skin) be in any way funny? I wouldn't know and do not care to find out.
