MOVIE REVIEW

Wild Hogs Wild Hogs

Directed by: Walt Becker

Starring: John Travolta, William H. Macy, Martin Lawrence and Tim Allen Buena Vista Pictures

Wild Hogs is just terrible. It is silly, predictable and filled with homosexual innuendo and bad jokes. It is all around simply not funny and pedestrian, though I'm sure it'll have some mass appeal to the dumbed down/numbed down masses. Here are a few of the textbook nutty antics: accidentally set fire to tent/ sleeping bag when a marshmallow burns; wake up at same campsite and the park ranger assumes they are gay because they are under one blanket in a row; as they are skinny dipping, a family randomly swims in and then realizes they are naked and hightails it out of there. Oh and Travolta's character teaching Macy's character to dance. Must Travolta dance in every film? Apparently. It is a highlight.

Wild Hogs tries way too hard to be zany and a buddy pic at once and it fails miserably. This is so formulaic. William H. Macy [The Cooler, Fargo], a brilliant indie character actor, must have received a hefty paycheck for this fluff. Macy, John Travolta [delightful addition to Hairspray], Tim Allen (who I believe is under contract for Disney since Home Improvement on Disney-owned ABC and doing the Toy Story films) and Martin Lawrence form the unlikely foursome of buddies who decide to hit the road on their Harleys. Trouble ensues. Romance develops. Friends sort-of bond and the audience find no laughs. Wild Hogs scored at the box office. Which explains little, as Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, two films I found completely inane and laughless, were immensely popular.

STEELE RECOMMENDATION: SKIP IT!
