Band: Arctic Monkeys
Album: "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not"
Label: Domino Records
Hailing from Yorkshire, a working class town in England, a cheeky foursome with youthful flair [all under 21] put together a band called Arctic Monkeys. And the band itself is as unusual as its chosen moniker: catchy, quirky and creative. Think a combination of Blur, Oasis and The Strokes. Then pump it up a few notches. Attitude, wit, spark, energy, charisma.
Alex Turner is a visionary songwriter who makes keen observations about everyday, relatable things -- girls, pubs, dreams, nightclubs and getting out of a small town.
There's the infectious vibe of "I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor, the super cool intro to "From the Ritz to the Rubble," the funky atmospheric beat of "Fake Tales of San Francisco," heavy guitar stylings fuel the revved speed of "Still Take You Home," while the reflective "When the Sun Goes Down," stretches the band's skill and showcases a clearly distinctive sound.
Believe the hype. Arctic Monkeys are no fad band. No, this foursome pieces together fierce song compositions fueled by killer hooks, driving, groovy bass riffs, feverish drumming and clever lyrics.
