MUSIC REVIEW
Band: The Brand New Heavies
Album: "Get Used to It"
Label: Delicious Vinyl
This is my summer soundtrack. Perfect for any occasion, it revs you up on the hot, humid days. By mixing up different genres, from 70s funk to jazz to hip-shaking R&B, the grooving melodies on Get Used to It are fabulous. The arrangements are cool combined with vocalist N' Dea Davenport's commanding style. It's a success from beginning to end.
"We've Got" kicks in and you instantly feel your body moving, there's the funky, deep rhythm and sweet vocals of "Sex God," getting down and deep in a supremely cool style is all it's about for "Right On," while the more contemporary R&B of "We Won't Stop" is sheer genius and "Music" is another stand-out for its unique arrangement and jamming music with expressive singing.
The Brand New Heavies experiment with arrangements, vocal styles, the infusion of horns, keyboards, guitars, piano, bass, percussion and effortlessly cross genres for a magnificent, fiercely unique, exhilaratingly special end result.
Get Used to It is so infectious and intense you will listen to it over and over again. It is a magnificent and memorable album.
