MUSIC REVIEW
Band: The Moaners
Album: "Dark Snack"
Label: Yep Roc Records
Killer guitar riffs and edgy drums fuel The Moaners garage rock style.
Guitarist/vocalist Melissa Swingle and Drummer Laura King pack lots of power for a two person band. Melissa's voice is a bit Courtney Love raspy but this is not a Hole sound-alike band.
The Moaners turns the songs into its own potent, attitude with a heart feeling throughout this album. It's fantastic to hear a band kick back to plain old simple guitar rock and roll without all the fancy extras. And it's amazing that this is coming from two women just playing from their guts and hearts. It seems so second nature to the women as well that the songs are so natural and flow from one to another.
The album kicks in with the catchy "Heart Attack," shows its mettle with "Terrier" and gets a bit bluesy on "Elizabeth Cotton's Song."
Dark Snack is the kind of treat for the ears you will relish for a change of flavor.
