MUSIC REVIEW
Band: Shivaree
Album: "Who's Got Trouble?"
Label: Zoe Records
The opening song, with its angelic singing and soft undertone "New Casablanca" stops you in your tracks and immediately emerges you in the dark, melancholy world of Shivaree.
Led by sultry-voiced vixen Ambrosia Parsley, Shivaree is a classy lounge act. Soft harmonies, dark themes and a collage of inventive instrumentation mesh, evoking an image of lipstick-stained wine glasses and lingerie strewn throughout an apartment that is floor to ceiling with books and artwork. Being dark and light is a rare accomplishment that Shivaree manages to effortlessly embrace like Lush or Curve or Mistle Thrush.
Shivaree creates unrelentingly bittersweet songs that literally stretch at the heartstrings and snap them back like a tight elastic. It is infused with honesty and a heightened awareness of self and emotions.
