MOVIE REVIEW
The Year of the Yao
Starring: Yao Ming and the National Basketball Association
This is a documentary about Chinese basketball star Yao Ming and how he captured the world's attention when he started playing for the Houston Rockets. Yao stands 7 feet 6 inches tall and was 22 years old when America met him. If you were standing next to him and looking up you'd say YAO. He is an anomaly.
To the billion who live in China he is a heroic son and the symbol of China's increasing presence on the world's stage. To the NBA, he is a poster child for the globalization of the sport. It's interesting to see how Yao dealt so politely with Americans when he spoke only Chinese and needed an interpreter even as a coach.
For basketball fans everywhere this would be a slam dunk!! For the rest of us it still earns three stars.
