SALLY KIRKLAND

Sally Kirkland As an Academy Award nominated, Golden Globe and Independent Spirit Award-winning actress, what is your favorite memory about Cannes?
During the 1987 festival, my Anna co-star, Paulina Porizkova and I experienced first-hand the early buzz about our then unknown, small independent film. I ran into Rex Reed in an elevator and after seeing the film, he raved, "Sally Kirkland devours Anna like raw steak and emerges a major star." That trip helped pave the road all the way to the Oscars.

Over the years, you have been called, the "Queen of the Indies," what have you been up to lately?
Just last week, I completed shooting my 20th independent film in two years - it's called, Resurrection Mary. Later this year, you can see me co-starring alongside Rob Schneider, Emmet Walsh, Scott Wilson, and David Carradine in Rob's hilarious directorial debut, Big Stan; with Jeremy London in Under the Knife; and Kristen Cavalleri in Fingerprints. The award-winning gay comedy, Coffee Date [with Wilson Cruz and Jonathan Silverman], and the drama, Off the Black [with Nick Nolte] had successful theatrical runs and are now available on DVD.

Currently, I also have various films on the festival circuit, including Neo Ned with Jeremy Renner and Gabrielle Union, and A-List and What's Up Scarlet?, both of which I also co-produced. I truly feel blessed to work with so many talented and amazing people.

Speaking of which - who would you consider your favorite director? Being my first, Andy Warhol will always have a place in my heart after starring me in 13 Most Beautiful Women. More recently, I had a blast being directed by Ron Howard in Ed TV - I truly enjoyed the creative input that he allowed me to have.

When not working, how do you relax? Aside from being a minister, I enjoy painting, yoga and escaping to my hideaway in Malibu.

Now, let's get personal - who would you consider the love of your life? Without a doubt...Bob Dylan!
