HAIR IN VOGUE
An innovative salon in Brentwood, CA is quickly developing a reputation as a leader in hair extension and hair replacement techniques. At its heart is owner Linda Leigh, a former clinical psychologist who found her way into hair artistry by unusual circumstances. While undergoing fertility treatments in an attempt to get pregnant, Leigh developed alopecia as a reaction to hormone therapy and started losing her hair. After struggling to find quality hairpieces with little success, Leigh made a decision that changed her life. She enrolled in the Vidal Sassoon Academy where she received her formal training in cut and color, and dedicated herself to becoming an expert in the art of hair replacement.
The result of her efforts is Hair in Vogue, a salon which Leigh opened three years ago. While Hair in Vogue provides a variety of different services including classic and creative haircuts and coloring, the salon specializes in hair extensions and hair replacement. Leigh takes pride in the care and attention to detail that Hair in Vogue provides when designing hair extensions. For every client requiring hair extensions, Leigh and her staff create a sample prototype of the extension in order to perfectly match the color, texture, pattern and density of the hair. Leigh also stresses that while most salons utilize only one type of extension technique, she and her staff are trained in a variety of different techniques. Based on her own experience with alopecia, Leigh knows that different clients have different needs, and that using the proper attachment technique is critical in order to maintain the health of the client's hair and scalp.
In addition to hair extensions, Hair in Vogue also creates a variety of "hair accent" pieces. These include ponytail pieces and a current trend, bang extensions. These accent pieces are available in a wide range of styles and colors and are popular with Hair in Vogue's clientele because they allow an individual to "throw in splashes of color and transform a look without having to bleach or damage the hair."
Hair in Vogue's clients span an age range from teenagers to senior citizens and Leigh points out that due to their reputation for providing high quality hair replacement and extensions, many of Hair in Vogue's clients find them through word of mouth. In addition to her extensive training in hair replacement, Leigh also believes that it is her background in psychology that allows her to approach hair artistry in a unique way. When assisting one of her clients to create a new look, Leigh stresses that she considers not only the individual's face shape, skin tone and outer appearance, but their inner self as well. Citing the personal nature of her work, Leigh emphasizes that it is important to consider what each individual "wants to create in their life and how their hair can be a symbol to help them create that."
