Denim is hotter than ever, and with new brands popping up left and right it's hard to distinguish which lines are worth the fuss. GOA Apparel has been making original, top quality denim for years and is a favorite with celebrities like Eva Longoria, Fergie, Eve, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and Beyonce. in asked designer at GOA, Khiem Nguyen to tell us about his lines.
Khiem began his career in fashion over a decade ago. He holds multiple designer awards and honors for his fashion achievements. After spending four years in New York, he came to California to work with Pierre Levy and GOA Apparel where he has taken over designing the stylish Vintage Rebel and Rock Revival lines.
Tell me a little bit about your background in fashion.
I received my degree at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Then I moved to Los Angeles where I designed for such private labels as Bebe and Adden B.
What makes your design different from the other top lines?
Vintage Rebel is made from American denim, and concentrates on original washes. Rock Revival is made from Japanese fabric, which is a very different type of fabric. It is a fitted line, which includes a lot of current looks like skinny jeans and solid colors. For both lines we use trade mark stitching on the side of the jeans, and on the zipper, as well as hand stitching on Rock Revival. We also use a lot of original designs like Fleur de Lis on our pockets and buttons.
Tell us about the new lines.
Our denim lines are hitting stores all over the world. In US we are sold all over from Nordstrom to Fred Segal to Lisa Klein. The new lines are also doing very well in Japan and in Europe. Rock Revival, is a premium denim line, which gets its inspiration from the legends of rock 'n' roll. The denim collection for men and women reinvents authentic tailoring with edgy, gothic detail translating into every stitch and wash. Each piece is handcrafted from the finest denim from Japan and Italy. The second-skin fabric is perfect for everyday and evening wear. The denim jeans, jackets, vests and skirts are now also made in corduroy and velveteen. Vintage Rebel is inspired by vintage fabrics and design, it is stylishly appealing yet perfect for everyday wear. Along with our popular basic denim, it is branching out into different washes and creative thicker stitching. The basic precision fit and rebel attitude is our signature style.
What should we expect next from your lines?
A lot of solid colors, no washes. Also skinny jeans, and a lot of very classic, simple styles that are very hot right now.
